Patron Members:

  • Geoff de la Lande [see below]
  • Shirley Bullen

Shirley Bullen
Shirley Bullen was a foundation member of Dubbo Jazz Club and from those early days was a very willing worker and a valued member. She was always available to attend tickets sales at the Mini Fests, Festivals, Concerts, Garden Parties or whatever. Shirley also sold raffle tickets to raise money for these events and walked the CBD distributing posters in numerous business houses to advertise the aforementioned events. In addition to this she was always in the front line when it came to decorating our venues for the many festivals.

Shirley was a bright, happy person and an avid Trad Jazz supporter, attending many festivals at Parkes, Forbes, Wagga and elsewhere. Due to her friendly outgoing nature and work commitment to our club she became well known and liked by many of Australia’s top jazz muso’s who performed at our club and festivals over the years.

When Ben Jones became our Dubbo Jazz Club Patron in 2005, Geoff De La Lande and Shirley Bullen were made Member Patrons of our club and held these positions up until the time of their passing. Shirley only ceased her work commitment to our club when she became very ill in 2010. Her health improved sufficiently for Terri to bring her to the 2012 Festival in a wheel chair and she had a ball.

Shirley was a great lady who gave a huge contribution to Dubbo Jazz Club and will be sadly missed by all who were fortunate to know her. [Shirley passed away 8 November 2015]

Lifetime Members:

In recognition and appreciation of outstanding contribution to Dubbo Jazz Club Inc since its formation in 1991. The content of this page is drawn from the citations at the time of acceptance as life member.

Colin Selwood 2014

Volunteer badge‘Colin’s outstanding contribution to Dubbo Jazz Club Inc over a period of twelve years should be recognised in this manner as it far exceeds what any ‘Not for profit’ organisation could expect from a member.

Colin is a foundation member of our club and a staunch supporter who has a passion for jazz. He has held the position of Assistant Treasurer for three years, Treasurer for six years and Membership Officer for seven years. Pre DRTTC days our club held at least five concerts/functions a year. Col would man the ticket sales and handle our finances at these and on most occasions this meant he missed the concert to carry out his duties. This also applied at our festival where he put in long hours doing the same and missing what he loved most.

In addition to the above he designed and made the Festival Weekend and Musician badges as well as all Festival Day and Sessions passes for the last eight years. Once designed, these passes had to be cut, punched, collated and pinned. A very time consuming job indeed. His work saved our club many thousands of dollars in design and printing costs over those years. During the last twelve years he has seldom missed our monthly meetings and he was an extremely competent treasurer who played a very large role in the success of Dubbo Jazz Club and its festivals.’

Nena & Albert Stevens 2012

Albert and Nena Stevens

Albert:
‘In recognition and appreciation of his outstanding contribution to Dubbo Jazz Club Inc since its formation in 1991. Albert is a foundation member of our club which has existed for the last 22 years. He has held the position of Treasurer for eight years, Vice President for one year, President for two years and a committee member for numerous years.

During this time he has seldom missed our monthly meetings and has unselfishly given hundreds of hours of his time in the distribution of concert & festival posters, preparation and mailing of our newsletters, manning doors at concerts, attending raffle sales, setting up, running and pulling down the festival venues.’

Nena:

‘In recognition and appreciation of her outstanding contribution to Dubbo Jazz Club Inc since its formation in 1991. Nena is a foundation member of our club since it formed twenty two years ago and has been a dedicated committee person for the majority of those years.

During this time she has seldom missed our monthly meetings and has unselfishly given hundreds of hours of her time in the distribution of concert & festival posters, preparation and mailing of our newsletters, manning doors at concerts, attending raffle sales, conducting surveys, setting up running and pulling down the festival venues.’

 Ross Tighe 2012

Volunteer badge‘In recognition and appreciation of outstanding contributions to Dubbo Jazz Club Inc since 1997. Seldom does an organization have the good fortune to experience the expertise of exceptional talents of a member such as Ross. Fifteen years ago when Dubbo Jazz Club was at a low ebb, Ross volunteered his services as Secretary and eleven years ago he added the duties of Festival Co-ordinator to his port folio.

Through dedicated devotion Ross has guided our festivals to an eminent status of being amongst the best jazz festivals in eastern Australia. The innumerable hours spent in the 9 months organizing each festival far exceeds the expectations of any organization. Accordingly, life membership is the least way in which our club can show its appreciation of Ross’ exceptional talents.’ Aug 2012
