One of the joys of ukulele playing is that they are not an expensive musical instrument to buy in most cases. In fact our Friends at Totally Music in Dubbo can organise a reasonable ukelele for you to buy  and play at the workshop. For around $50 you can purchase a uke with extra strings and instructions and it could be ready at the Festival when you arrive if you are from out of town. Totally Music will also have a display in the Marketplace at the RSL Terrace  at the Festival from Friday thru Sunday.

A basic beginners Ukulele can be sold with the $90 workshop ticket package.

If you would like to discuss buying a Ukelele ring Steve or Sharon at TOTALLY MUSIC in DUBBO on 02 6882 6686 or email totally@tpg.com.au

WORKSHOP TWO: SWING DANCE WORKSHOPS

Swing dancing originated as a social dance, and that’s how it will be at the Dubbo Jazz Festival! The Canberra Swing Katz experts lead an introductory workshop and an Intermediate workshop on Saturday 10 August from 2-5pm. Their workshops are designed to get you up and dancing asap, no previous experience required! Join one or both workshops and then dance the night away at the Festival’s Big Band Night, featuring the RAN Admiral’s Own Big Band, Great Western Plains Big Band and Tin Roof Big Band, Saturday 8-11pm in the RSL Auditorium.

In your workshop, you will learn the basic steps and fundamental leading/following techniques you need to look and feel great on the dance floor. You don’t need to bring a partner (though it helps if you can!) and flat, comfy shoes are best. The workshop provides an introduction to Charleston and Lindy Hop, and also some more advanced teaching for those with a little more experience. You can do one or both workshops, or do the first and then decide to join in for the second! All ages are welcome young and older, and the first workshop is for true beginners, but you might well progress to second workshop if you enjoy the expereince.

The Big Band Night consists of three hours of big band live entertainment and demonstration swing dance from Canberra Swing Katz. Food and drinks will be available from the RSL.

SESSION ONE: Beginners Swing Dance Saturday 10 August from 2-3:30pm at Wesley Church Hall $44/$40*
SESSION TWO: Intermediate Swing Dance Saturday 10 August from 3.45pm-5:15pm at Wesley Church Hall $44/$40*
COMBINED SESSIONS ONE & TWO: Beginners and Intermediate Swing Dance from 2-5:15pm at Wesley Church Hall $66/$60*
Workshop cost includes free admission to Big Band Night (normally $25)

* Discount for members of RSL / DJC / Macquarie Conservatorium / Dubbo Young Professional Network and for school students. Proof required on entry.
