jazzDubbo Jazz will launch its 25th Weekend of Jazz at 9.30 on Saturday 1 August. Local Band The Chalkies will be joined by members of the Dubbo Jazz Club Committee and local Big Band, Tin Roof Big Band, to wake up the markets with a jazz jam to herald the forthcoming jazz weekend.

The 25th Free Weekend of Jazz offers a number of events over the weekend presenting jazz in various forms to many audiences, including a welcome event at the Monkey Bar, Saturday Lazy River Jazz Lunch, Saturday Dinner Jazz & Fireside Jazz at the Quality Inn Whylandra St, and Sunday Jazz brunch at Outlook Café Western Plains Cultural Centre.

FREE Jazz Jam Pop-Ups will also happen both at the Church St Rotunda and at the award winning Taronga Western Plains Zoo.

Except for food and drink costs this weekend is free with no admission charges so no excuse for anyone not to come!

“There has been an enthusiastic response to the weekend program, and the lunch at Lazy River Estate is in particularly selling fast,” says Dubbo Jazz President, Greg Marginson. “We’re looking forward to introducing the local audience to jazz sounds as diverse at smooth mainstream through to pre-war trad and hokum jug music.

Dubbo Jazz to celebrate 25th Anniversary

Dubbo-Jazz-logo-BWsmlrDubbo Jazz has just announced its free weekend of Jazz  from 7-9 August to celebrate its 25th year. The weekend will include Opening Welcome Party at The Monkey Bar on Fri 7 Aug featuring local band The Chalkies. [The Monkey Bar Lower Wingewarra St Dinner bookings: 02 6884 4949.
The weekend continues on Sat 8 Aug at the now well established Lazy River Lunch from 12.30pm  featuring Jordan C Thomas Band. [Lazy River Estate 29R Old Dubbo Rd. Bookings essential: 6882 2111].
Sat 8 Aug night will feature David Harvey on jazz guitar Reflections Dinner Jazz [Reflections Restaurant, Quality Inn 165 Whylandra St, Reservations: 6882 4777] The same venue will host Free Fireside Party Jazz Jam [from 8.30pm Quality Inn 165 Whylandra St Beer, Cocktails, finger food & Fireside jazz]. This will give you chance to join the music and dance the night away.
Sun 9 Aug will feature Sunday Jazz Brunch featuring Jordan C Thomas Solo at the Outlook Café Western Plains Cultural Centre, 76 Wingewarra St Dubbo.

New Committee once again moves Dubbo Jazz Forward


Firstly let me thank everyone for coming last week to the Special Meeting of Dubbo Jazz. It was good to be in a room of like minded people and talk about the future of Dubbo Jazz. At the Committee meeting the following executive positions were agreed to: Greg Marginson, President; Bizzi Mason, Vice President, Ken Smith Secretary; Kris Stevens, Treasurer with Kerry Ellen and Steven Knight as ordinary members.
The Meeting felt determined to celebrate the 25th year of Dubbo Jazz and the Dubbo Jazz Festival in style so make sure you put the weekend of 7-9 August in your diary.
We resolved last week to hold anotheer meeting on Tuesday with all invited. Several people cant make it so I propose to defer the meeting until same time next week being
Tuesday 28 April at 7.30,
at the Meeting Room of Sport & Recreation 167 Brisbane St Dubbo.
We need everyones input and energy to share the jazz in Dubbo in 2015 and beyond.
